60614 Step-by-Step

Darden Dodge returns to his boyhood home, walking every inch of his once-again postal code. This is a flip-book with detailed routes, photo galleries, and a few historical landmarks. There are descriptions and recommendations for parks, pubs and coffee shops.

The step-by-step guide to Chi-Town, 60614 is currently available on Amazon. Volume 4, with new photos and historical references, will likely hit the street by late Spring. Sometimes, there’s copies in the free libraries in Clover Park on Southport or at Oscar Meyer School on Racine.

Also, check out the Arrogant Frog on Fullerton, the Dash Diner across from Oz Park, Beck’s on Clybourn, or Bageler’s on Lincoln for occasionally-available complementary copies.

Long Shadows

Bioluminescence

This is my new favorite word / kind of lyrical / I’m picturing a tee-shirt with the the word and definition displayed on the front / on the back, I see an artist rendition of their favorite / among the coolest sounding (and looking) of these is the reddish Vampire Squid and eerie-blue Kitefin Shark

There are seem to be hundreds of examples in our oceans and hardly any in fresh water habits, even fewer on land / I’m guessing there will be more examples as the world continues to evolve

I’ve read luciferin is the chemical compound in all known bioluminescent organisms (along with either photoprotein or luciferase)

Fireflies and Glowworms are pretty common / will humans ever glow ? / well the bacteria inside or outside humans already has, according to some Civil War historians and research scientists

The Screaming Wildman

Rock-n-Roll producer, promoter, and AM-Radio celebrity Carl Bonafede from Chi-Town, 60614 caught lightning in bottle in 1967. He guided a popular local band (soon to be known as The Buckinghams) to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

He also founded the all-girl band known as the Daughters of Eve, who recorded many of their popular singles at the legendary Chess Records. They played hundreds of venues, including the renowned Surf Ballroom, along with entertaining thousands of stateside Vietnam troops before deployment.

Darden Dodge played an instrumental role in the concept, layout, cover design, production, and publication, even ghosting a few chapters. Available on Amazon.

All are Black Walnut, ethically and sustainably culled from the Central Wisconsin canopy. The eco-friendly 1-3/4 in unfinished wood moulding, created from the same tree, displays an 11×14 mounted print.
